Maremoto FC 2 - 3 FC Lightning

Despite having an inexperienced goalkeeper, Nic, Maremoto FC managed to keep the game close against FC Lightning. Although it was clear Maremoto could have tied or even won the match, FC Lightning won in large part because of their diminutive female striker. The defense did a great job of shutting down the Smurf-like striker, but she proved to be too big a pest. (I have provided an artist's rendering of the opponent's star striker, to the right).

An early goal from Andrea gave Maremoto a momentary lead and Beth regained the lead with her first goal of the season. 'New-boys' Sam and William did a great job of fitting into a defensive system anchored by Lauren, Vivian and Beth. Unfortunately, Maremoto lost again but the team's improved organization gives reason to remain optimistic.

Player(s) of the Match: The Women. They all played great, On defense they maintained organization and hustled. Offensively, they generated most scoring opportunities and scored our only goals. Thank you Andrea, Beth, Lauren, and Vivian.

Maremoto FC 7 - 9 Ben Bridge

Ben Bridge and Alto scored 5 goals before Michael scored his first goal. They led the game 5-1 in the first half. The game changed drastically in the second half, when Katherine, Vivian and Beth starred in the defense and the trio of Michael, Vasily and Enrique started a shoot out. The team's leading attacker, Michael, scored four goals followed by Vasily and Enrique. In a game where we scored a season high of seven goals and cut the lead from 7-1 to 9-7, Maremoto was just two goals shy of a legendary come back.

Player of the game: Katherine's defense was great especially her duels with Alto. She helped the offense get into a rhythm.

Maremoto FC 4 - 8 Gunners

Coming off the 93 Smackers and The crazy 88 games, Maremoto was determined and hyped to win this one, as well. The game started with a nice goal from Michael and followed by another one from Sixto. It wasn't too long before the Gunners took full control of the first half, and edged Maremoto by 4-2.

Michael and Nic scored two more goals in the second half, however the final score was 8-4. Even though the score reflects a rout, the game was much closer than it looked. It was a fun game to be part of.

Player of the Game: The invisible hero of the Maremoto team Beth, did not only run all over the field, help the defense and midfield, but also saved a definite goal.

Maremoto's Season by the Numbers

We've already completed half way through the season. With four more games to play, let's have a detailed look into what we've done so far.

We played seven games and scored 27 goals, which relates to 3.9 gpg (goals per game). Our scoring defense gave up 43 goals, averaging 6.1 gpg. There is a 2.2 margin that explains our loosing record. Nine different people scored at different times, but only one starter, Michael has 1 gpg average. Only two people scored more than three goals, Michael and Enrique. Our highest scoring game was six goals, which is still less than our season average in the defense. Maremoto has never been shutdown and scored at least two goals in every game. Our defense was able to hold our opponent below 3.9 goals only two times, in the season opener against Ich Liebe and in the lone defeat against Mano Verde.

This might have been our lowest scoring season so far. However, I believe that If we defend better and lower the 6.1 gpg to somewhere around 5, we will also score a few more goals and have a better finish. We need to have a strong finish.

Maremoto FC 3 - 7 Crazy 88

Maremoto came out on top for the first 10 minutes of the game showing great defense and passing skills. The first goal of the night came from Burak after the Crazy 88 goalie kicked it out and left the goal unattended. Unfortunately the defense collapsed and after Crazy 88 ran away with a few goals the score was 1-4 at the end of the first half.

The second half started out with 2 more goals from Crazy 88, allowing Maremoto to have one more male on the field. Maremoto’s second goal came from a kick by Enrique that made the goalie leave his box again and Lauren took advantage by kneeing it in to make the score 2-6. Maremoto wasn’t going to give up all together and Enrique scored the last goal with a free kick towards the end of the game. The game ended 3-7.

Player of the Game: Yong, aka Great Wall of China, had some amazing saves. Crazy 88 was shooting them at Yong left and right and without him the score would have been much higher.

Goal of the Game: Enrique’s free kick. Despite the goalie and a wall of 3 defenders Enrique managed to squeeze the ball by them to end the game 3-7.

Thanks to Lauren for the game summary.

Maremoto FC 5 - 5 93 Smackers

93 Smackers led the first half with three goals, but Maremoto stayed in the game with goals from Michael and Nic.

Despite trailing 4-2 in the second half, Maremoto came back with goals from Enrique and Michael. 50 seconds before the end of the game 93 Smackers took the lead thanks to the most controversial call of the game. But 50 seconds was all Maremoto needed to kick off the ball and hand it to Michael to take care of the rest.

Player of the game: Michael is the leading forward with seven goals after his hat trick in this game.

Goal of the game: Michael had ony 50 seconds to dribble from north to south and score with zero seconds left on the clock to make sure the ref wouldn't call another phantom penalty.

This week, Maremoto fought for its long deserved win and triumphed. Maremoto dominated the first half. Despite a lull in the second half, a goal by Maremoto held on to win. Numerous goals by seasoned Maremoto veterans including Michael, Vasily, and Nic were augmented by new players. A strong back line, especially Enrique, held Mano Verde at bay.

Maremoto FC 6 - 11 DMJLaw.net

Previously playing in C League, DMJLaw.net started this season with three straight wins, before facing Maremoto. Even though, DMJLaw.net was heavily favored, Maremoto wasn't going to go down with out putting up a fight. Maremoto scored six goals starting with Diego, followed by Andrea, Michael, two from Vasily and finished again with Diego.

Katherine highlighted the game by dribbling from the goal line to goal line and assisting to Diego for a goal.

Maremoto might have lost the game on the scoreboard, but was able to hang in the game with DMJLaw.net.

Player of the game: Our new player Andrea played with courage and she deserved to be the player of the game with her two goals in two games.

Maremoto FC 3 - 8 Matter FC

Matter FC started the game with a lopsided lead. They had already scored three goals before our new recruit Andrea scored her first goal. In the first half, every time Maremoto attacked only one defender, Katherine, was left to stop the counter-attacks. The result was three Matter FC forwards against our one defender, so they found open shots.

The second half started with Matter leading 7-1. Luckily Maremoto had an extra player on the field, so we had a more balanced second half. Michael cut the lead to 2-7 and Diego scored the last goal to finish the game 3-8.

Lesson learned from this week's game: if we don't play positions, it is like being down a player. Also, the passing game was not satisfactory.

Maremoto FC 2 - 6 Point Break

Maremoto was desperately in need of a win after a long losing streak, and they were ready to do what it takes. Michael took the ball from the kick off , dribbled across the field and scored the first goal of the game. The youthful Point Break was looking for an answer and they had to balance and increase the pressure until they found two goals take the lead in the first half.  The furious Point Break opened up the lead to 3-1 in the second half, until Diego's shot bounced back from the wall and Enrique scored the second and the final goal for Maremoto.

With the clock winding down, Maremoto had to loosen up in the offense and Point Break's opportunist speedy forwards took advantage of the weakened defense with three unanswered more  goals.

Another unlucky day for the Team Maremoto, the game finished 2-6.

Player of the game: Katherine kept the score in single digits by stopping many attacks with a solid defense.

Goal of the game: Michael's quick strike from the opening kick off demoralize the Point Break and kept them on their toes for the rest of the first half. Two goals in the first half and four goals in the second half says it all.

Maremoto was desperately looking for a goal to tie the game and the long waited-game-tying-goal came from Enrique. Ich Liebe's goal keeper saved many more after the game was tied. Even the beautiful header from Michael, assisted by Sarah. Ich Liebe finally scored one more time with seven minutes left on the clock. For the rest, Maremoto increased pressure, but the score didn't change. It was a close call, 2-3.

Player of the week: With two goals and many assists Enrique was outstanding.

Maremoto FC 4 - 9 Cosmic Not's

Cosmic Not's was looking for a revenge for their previous 6-3 loss. First half was competitive in each side of the ball. Michael scored the first goal of the game, and the second Maremoto goal came from Diego. Maremoto was trailing 3-2 at the end of the first half.

Team Maremoto's lack of subs and physical condition started to become obvious in second half. When the score was 3-5 the team needed some extra fresh blood, and the goalie shuffle started. First Enrique took over Burak's position, then Katherine kept the goal for the rest of the game. Even with four males on the field, Maremoto couldn't stop Cosmic Not's physical game. Michael and Diego each scored two goals. The game ended 4-9.

Player of the week: Enrique's fast sprints helped Maremoto keep Cosmic Not's on their toes and on the defensive. He didn't only play in offense, midfield and defense but also in goal. He was the player of the week.

Special thanks to the big cheerleading support from Yong, John and Huseyin. Our injured players showed their support.

The team Maremoto showed that it's a second half team by a come back with an increase pressure on the offensive side of the ball.  Midway through the second half, we were leading by two goals with goals from Vasily(2), Lauren, Enrique, Yong and Sarah(2).

However, Yong had to sprain his ankle to prevent a goal and in his absence we lost the balance in defense. Alto scored the winning goal at the end of the game. I have to congratulate everyone for the great effort.

FC Lightning 4- 8 Maremoto FC

First of half of the game was competitive. FC Lightning introduced a rough and aggressive play first half with intense collisions, our team got physically punished. Despite the controversial 2 minutes of physical play, Maremoto was still in the game despite FC Lightning leading 3-2, but the most aesthetic goal of the first half was a chipped assist from Michael to Nic. Nic volleyed the ball over the goalie and in the back of the net.

FC Lightning was hoping to keep the score tied by wearing out their opponent with their aggressive game, however, they didn't know that Maremoto was a second half team. Maremoto started to spread the offense and control the ball much better and pushed the game into home team's field. The route was on with Michael's three goals, Beth two goals and one goal each from Enrique, Yong and Nic. The final score 8-4.

Player of the game: This may not have been the highest scoring game for Maremoto, but it was definitely the best performance. One player was able to standout, Beth covered the field from post to post and with her aggressive play pushed the second goal through a defender and a goal keeper.

Goal of the game: When Sarah placed the ball in to the box on a free kick and Enrique had a beautiful header, at that point FC Lightning was aware the game was out of reach.

Maremoto FC 2 - 5 The Crazy 88

The Crazy 88 started with a big pressure on our defense. They were looking for a possibility of a quick goal. Having watched the Chinese team in Olympics, Yong wasn't going to give the Crazy 88 an opportunity. He set up the "Great Wall of China" and inspired the rest of the team. The first half finished with two goal deficit.

Maremoto started the second half with the Duo, Michael and Diego, and found two goals to pull the game into reach (3-2). Despite Yong's great saves and Katherine's endless efforts, the game ended 5-2. Even the third half wouldn't satisfy team Maremoto, so we had to have an after game to move on from the loss at the Magnuson Park, which could be the new tradition of the summer league.

The Player of Game: Who could be a better goal keeper than the Great Wall of China. With his great efforts and inspiring game, Yong kept the game always in reach for team Maremoto.

Maremoto FC 7 - 9 Mano Verde

This season has been a success and the number two ranking was a good indicator. We had a great performance against all of the teams, except Ben Bridge where we had to surrender to Alto the Ref. We were hoping to keep winning this week, however the game started unexpectedly. Maybe because it was the only game where we had enough subs, so the team wasn't motivated enough..? Long story made short, Mano Verde had six unanswered goals in the first half.

Maremoto wasn't going to go down without a fight. There was a totally different team on the field in the second half. The team had various leaders. Goals came from everywhere as Michael had three, Diego two and Enrique had one. The second half come back witnessed Utku becoming the team's defensive leader resulting with the nick name "the Bear Stangler." Maremoto managed to outscore its opponent in the second half, but all Mano Verde had to do was slow down the game and wait for it to be over. They almost suffered for it, as the clock was stopped a few times. Then Marie finished the game with a beautiful last second goal but the winner was Mano Verde, sadly.

Maremoto FC 6 - 3 Cosmic Not's

I'd like to congratulate everybody who contributed to Maremoto's this season's the probable best game. Special thanks to Bonnie, who came for help, even though she was nursing her knee injuries from last two seasons and what a performance she had in defense, midfield and offense. Lauren and Beth also played full time, Lauren defending the violent attacks of Cosmic Not's and Beth as usual being the most athletic player on field.

Maremoto started the first half with two early goals from Michael. Unfortunately, Maremoto experienced a fatique in defense and furious Cosmic Not's managed to close the first half in tie. Our Euro Cup Champion representer Diego was not going to allow the opponent team to take the lead. He was looking for a "Spanish Style Goal" and scored a beautiful one from the right side of the goal post in to the high left side, yet Cosmic Not's had a female goal keeper and it didn't count. This was not going to bring Diego down, and he scored another goal from a similar position to take the lead to 3-2 .

The tenacious opponent team was not going to give up so easily and they tied the game with out realizing that they got Yong angry. Our fast Chinese forward had two generous goal assist to Vasily to take the lead, and he sealed the victory by scoring the last goal of the game.

Player of the game: This game had more than one hero, however, one person turned the game back from 3-3 and pull it out of Cosmic Not's reach. Yong should be the unanimous player of this game.

Maremoto FC 9 - 11 Ben Bridge

Maremoto's successful summer season had a big test against the furious offense of Home Team Opponent 'Ben Bridge.' Maremoto's defense had been previously proven by only letting four goals in the first two games against Ich Liebe and Point Break. This weeks game started as expected with a quick strike from Michael, who powered the ball into the goal within the first 10 seconds of the match! However, the currents changed, when Abukar Abukar, commonly known as Alto, our usual good natured Ref, played forward for the Home Team. Alto was a formidable opponent. Even the league's stoutest defense had no answer in the first half when Ben Bridge coupled Alto with an equally fast forward on the field leading to five quick goals to finish the first half in the lead. Ben Bridge's quick lead was shattered when Enrique and Utku stepped up and Katherine stopped the furious attacks from Home Team. The game was tied 8-8 with less then five minutes left on the clock. This high scoring game was put out of reach as Alto increased pressure on Maremoto with time on the clock winding down. It was a valiant effort by team Maremoto who scored 9 goals. The team was tested against skilled opponents but is now stronger than ever!

Player of the Match: Katherine was the cure to Maremoto's depleted female subs. She played full time and was a nightmare for the home team offense. Opponent Alto credited her with three good stops on him.

Maremoto FC 5 - 2 Point Break

Maremoto got off to its quickest start yet this season. Diego scored two goals in the first five minutes team Maremoto a 2-0 lead that they took into half time. Point Break wanted to come back in the second half and came out on fire. Team Maremoto's lead was threatened, but Diego had quick answers to Point Break's two goals keeping a two goal margin. Diego's ball handling skills and composure under pressure were nothing but torture for this week's opponent, who could not figure out a way to stop him. Sarah had a solid game controlling the midfield. She was all over the ball and never showed a sign of fading, even though there were no female subs. Yong had fabulous saves (one from a head shot in the box). He has become a formidable obstacle to opponents, who are learning to fear him! Utku made his debut showing Turkish drive and spirit. Laruen was awesome in defense showing more aggressive play than ever. She, Sarah and Marie showed great stamina in having to play the entire game. Vasily displayed great ball control and composure under duress. And, what can you say about Burak and Enrique other than solid, solid, solid. Michael capped off a team Maremoto victory by adding the final point that broke Point Break

Maremoto FC 3 - 2 Ich Liebe

In a solid start to the summer season, Maremoto held off a furious Ich Liebe for a win. In the first half, the opposition answered two quick goals by Michael. Like the Turkish national team, Maremoto did not let a shallow bench intimidate them. The attack led by Sarah and Singapore/Russia import Pavel kept Ich Liebe on their toes. Some disorganization in the back was overshadowed by a solid effort by goal keeper Burak. With a one goal lead going into the last minute, Maremoto was far from secure. A free kick brought on by Lauren’s handball pulled the entire opposition forward including the keeper. A valiant effort by the entire team was all that saved Maremoto from the frenzy of shots.

Player of the Match: Sarah. Endless effort garnered the Bostonian many steals and goal scoring opportunities. Seeming to be everywhere at once she kept going despite the oppressive heat. Not even a knock down by the opposing keeper intimidated her.

Maremoto FC 8 - 5 Tableau Titans

In the last game of the season, Maremoto FC came together for a fantastic victory. Goals came from everywhere. Robert had multiple goals and assists in his last game for Maremoto. His precision shots and passes will be missed as he leaves for his Texas adventure. Marie had a nice assist though, proving Maremoto were not overly dependent on their German midfielder. Strong team defending helped ensure Maremoto got the victory. In particular, Lidia's kamikaze style defending scared the opponents...and perhaps even her own teammates.

Maremoto FC may end the season in 4th place, if HT lose or tie their final game.

Player of the Match: Burak looked like a rabbit on methamphetamines, as he hopped from side to side stopping shots. Whenever it seemed the Titans would get back into the game Burak came up with big saves. Maybe watching Turkey's goalies in the Euro Championships inspired him.

Maremoto FC 5 - 7 The Crazy 88

Maremoto FC lost but the team played very well. In fact, I think Maremoto had the majority of possession. Unfortunately, the opposing team used their speed to break down our defense. Maremoto transition from offense to defense was slow, but Maremoto ball control was great. Diego and Sarah managed to keep us from turning the ball over much. While Yong and Robert managed to steal the ball and make great passes. At the end of the night, Maremoto didn't have enough to win despite a run of late goals.

Maremoto FC go into the last game of the season in a must win situation. With some hard work...and a little luck...Maremoto FC should be able to end the season on a good note.

Player of the Match: Yong had a great game. He found open players all night. He also read the other team well, and stole lots of balls. At the end he even managed to play goalie and make some great saves...too bad he will be going to his motherland for a few weeks.

Maremoto FC 1 - 5 DKS
A quick few goals at the beginning of the game made life tough for Maremoto FC. However, towards the middle of the 1st half the team was getting a bit more organized. Unfortunately, an injury to a DKS player caused 5 minutes of the 1st half to be lost just when Maremoto were finding their rhythm with the help of nice passing from Yong and Michael. Robert's strong play in the midfield was rewarded when he slotted in a nice shot giving Maremoto something to cheer about. The team played hard but it just wasn't our game as we found ourselves chasing the ball rather than holding our formation.

Maremoto FC 3 - 3 HT
Fresh from a loss, Maremoto took the field. Inspired by some nice moves from Enrique, the team played through fatigue. Burak ran hard, while Sarah and Kyle stole multiple balls. Consequently, Maremoto were not allowing HT to settle into the game. Newcomer Lauren scored in her first Maremoto appearance. Although Maremoto did not win, the team showed they can bounce back from a tough defeat. It was a tie worth celebrating...and we celebrated by keeping Burak from passing out. I guess playing with a fever is not a good idea, but he does come from a country of "bear stranglers", so he is tough.

Player of the Matches: Hard decision because everyone played great, even if the results don't show it. However, I'd have to say Lidia was the most impressive. Our little Italian showed true spirit throughout the games. Her defensive skill and fiery attitude was unmatched.

Special thanks to the fans and injured teammates who came to support us. It helps.

Maremoto Shirt LAST CHANCE

Beth says she will place one last order for Maremoto FC jerseys. Please ask people at NOAA, UW, friends, and team members.

Cost: ~$15 (depending on number ordered)

So far: Eddie, Rachel, and Frank

Deadline: June 20th

Please leave order details (size, number, name) in comments section.

Wanted: Girl Player

Vivian has left for a summer stint at Friday Harbor. I am not sure her contract allowed this temporary move but we will have to suffer without her. Also, Bre is about to leave for a warm and sunny summer in the Kuril Islands. The absence of two star female players requires Maremoto FC pick up one female player for the summer. If the new player proves herself loyal to Maremoto perhaps she can become a permanent player.
So, starting looking!

Maremoto FC 5 - 4 Tableau Titans

Never say die! Maremoto FC battled hard for a victory over the bottom club in the league. Robert started off the scoring for Maremoto. The German midfielder showed unusual patience as he calmly put away a nice shot from the outside. Goals were coming from a variety players. Vasily demonstrated that he has some silky moves as he scored one and continued to look for another. Meanwhile, Beth unleashed powerful shots from outside throughout the game. However, towards the end it seemed Maremoto would only come away with a tie. Every time we scored, the other team would quickly put one away, catching us during our celebrations. With less than a minute in the match it looked like the winning streak would end, and it would become an unbeaten streak. Amazingly, with 30 seconds remaining there was a scramble in front of the Titan's goal. Marie saw her opportunity and put her shot in the back of the net, giving Maremoto FC a dramatic victory. Three wins in a row!

Maremoto FC have a week off before they head into a doubleheader, where they face the top team and the third place team. Tough times ahead, but one good result could see Maremoto continue to move up the table.

Player of the Match: Marie for her game winning goal.
