Maremoto FC 5 - 10 Pac Med FC

The team Maremoto was tired and depleted at the last game of the season. Despite starting the game with only 4 people, the team managed to give Pac Med a game. Pac Med were too many and too fast to stop with a depleted roster, however, the game was closer than 5-10.
In the next game Cortisone Shooter were against Seattle's Children FC and they only had our friend Janet, we had a scrimmage game against them, where we played a much better defense than the previous game and kept the score at 1-5.

Player of the game: Marie played two full time games with out substituting.

Maremoto FC 5 - 3 FC Lightning

After a long stretch of depleted roster, Maremoto finally got together and won this one for the team. The team played organized the entire game holding the FC Lightning to only three goals with help from Captain Nic covering the defensive mistakes as the goalie. Good positioning helped Sarah, Vasily and Yong move the ball at ease, and Kanti was the most improved player of the team disrupting the FC Lightning defense. Goals came from Michael (2), Vasily, Burak and Enrique. Beth and our guest Karen arrived in time for the game when needed help.

Marie was unanimously the player of the game by her flawless play as an all American defender.

Maremoto Magnuson Park Pick Up!

We are planning to make the outdoor pick up games a tradition and we are meeting at Magnuson Park on June 15, 6:30 pm. Make sure to bring drinks for dehydration and respond on the evite!

Maremoto FC 6 - 4 Gunners

The league's successful team Gunners, didn't want a let down against Maremoto and hit with two early goals, before Vivian and Marie anchored defense with help from Beth and Janet. When Gunners were leading 3-0, Maremoto opened up with Michael (2) and Beth tying 3-3 at the half time. The Gunners last goal came at the beginning of the second half during a substitution and then got shut out. With two goals from Alto and a cunning free kick from Yong, Maremoto ended the game 6-4.

Player of the game: The entire team played very well. Especially the defense was flawless and the MVP goes to the team. Thank you very much everybody!

Maremoto F.C. 5-10 Random Acts of Violets

The depleted Maremoto team had to start the game with one girl shy and even the extra effort from the team didn't seem likely to stop the Random Acts of Violets. With mercy, the team was allowed to have an extra guy instead of a girl and the first half ended three to nothing.
Sam's effort was awarded with a beautiful goal giving hope for the team, which soon ran out of fuel. Where Alto had a final push to almost tie the score at 5-4, and then the game ended 10-5. In  my opinion, it's a call for a weekend practice game at 2pm at Magnuson Park

Players of the game: Sam, Andrea and Marie kept running until the very end with special effort.

Maremoto FC 7 - 7 Seattle Children's FC

Seattle Children's started with quick strikes against Maremoto and made it look like it was going to be a blow out. However, the mighty Maremoto came back after some necessary substitutions with goals from Alto, Burak and Sam. Maremoto was in the game before the end of the first half, 5-3.
Our guest player Janet started the second half keeping the goal, and Maremoto's defense started shaking the Seattle Children's offense with Beth, Marie, Sam and the man from down under, Stewart. It was not too long before Andrea and Vasily set up the strikers Alto, Michael and Yong. The game came to the end with the final score 7-7.

Maremoto FC 1 - 3 Cortisone Shooters

This game was expected to be the most physical game of all and the win really mattered for the Cortisone Shooters guys, if even if they have to push our female players down. However, Maremoto was ready for the challenged and kept the score 0-0 in the first half and reply back to Cortisone Shooters first goal by beautiful header by Michael assisted by Gaby. The organized Maremoto came up short at the end with two defensive mistakes, but the game was much closer. Thanks to our guest players Adriana, Gaby and Stewart.

Goal of the season: Gaby set up the ball from the midfield into the box and Michael took the opportunity.

Maremoto FC 6 - 12 Ich Liebe

Maremoto FC played a tough game against the best team in the league last night being challenged with excellent players on the other team leaving little room to steal the ball or get in scoring position. A goal from Michael in the opening seconds of the game gave Maremoto it's only lead of the night. Maremoto tried to stay strong against Ice Liebe's quick and organized offense with Marie and Sam stealing some valuable balls and Vasily showing aggression never seen before.

Yong and Michael were the sole scorers of the game each scoring 3 for Maremoto. It seemed like Ich Liebe was always pulling ahead farther but the defence managed to hold them to 12 goals for the evening.

Player of the Game: Yong for his quickness on the field as well as scoring 3 goals for the team. Perhaps he should eat a full dinner right before every game from now on.

Maremoto FC 3 - 8 Crazy 88

All that Maremoto FC wanted was a lucky break against an extra motivated Crazy 88. This week the depleted Maremoto defense missed their regular starters, Andrea, Marie and Vivian. Beth, Yong, Burak, Lauren, Michael, Nic and Enrique tried to stop the furious attacks of the Crazy 88 but couldn't do it. Michael was the only one to reach the Crazy 88 goal line with his hat-trick. Our Captain, Nic, not only stopped the shots in the first half but also contribute to various attacks and helped Michael score his two second half goals. This game was far off from achieving revenge from last season's 5-7 defeat, but with the excitement of our new additions (Kanti and Eset) and some more practice...Maremoto should be in better shape for the second half of the season.

Player of the Match: Beth stepped it up and played great defense as the rest of us struggled to get organized. She was aggressive in cutting out passes and played well the entire game.

Maremoto FC 4 - 5 Mano Verde

Maremoto FC started the game with good positioning and ball control. While the defense and midfield controlled the ball, the offense was close to a goal more than once. Mano Verde got their lone goal of the first half from a confusion in the defense...which helped them get in the rhythm.

After shuffling a few positions, Yong and Burak took over the goal allowing captain Nic to get on the field-despite his injured leg. Nic and Enrique changed the flow of the game and didn't leave until Nic's game tying goal.

However, Mano Verde came back firing and it was up to Michael to turn the tide and his hat-trick tied the game at 4-4, until the last 45 seconds.

Thanks to our guests (Ayman, Kanti and Eva) for providing some much needed energy and enthusiasm.

Players of the Game: While Vivian stole the ball a lot, Michael helped build a late game comeback with his hat-trick.

Maremoto FC 6 - 3 Point Break

This week Maremoto was scheduled to play the rivalry game against the Point Break, and the game definitely lived up to the hype! The veteran Vasily scored the first goal of the game, soon to be equalized by Point Break. Our midfield star Andrea pushed in and score the second goal, which was equalized again by Point Break. After last week's silence, leading scorer Michael showed up in the final minutes of the first half to retake the lead, 3-2. The first half stars were defenders Chris, Vivian and Marie.

The second half started with the deja-vu and Vasily opened up the lead to 4-2, providing a big relief. Most of the second half was about hustle. While Vivian and Sam kept the defense, Kelly, Chris, Vasily, Yong and Andrea controlled the midfield. Late in the game, when the entire Maremoto was attacking, Point Break scored on a counter attack to get back into the game. However, Chris put the game away and Michael's goal was the last nail in the coffin.

Player of the game: Kelly was efficient with sheilding the ball and she was a commander, feeding nice passes to the team...unselfishly setting up balls for the Maremoto offense.

Lessons learned: The third Point Break goal was a Maremoto offensive mistake. There have to be two defenders at all times behind the midfield and no need for the whole midfield and offense to be that close to the opposing goal line.

Sounders get global attention

Sounders FC have been getting lots of attention locally and now globally. If you haven't been to a game yet, I highly recommend it...good team and great atmosphere. Check out the short video, below.

Maremoto FC 2 - 7 Pac Med FC

Maremoto started the season with league's newest team Pac Med FC, who joined the league last season and this was the first match between the teams. Maremoto had to start the game with 5 people. Pac Med wanted to take advantage of a depleted Maremoto and they pressured Maremoto's defense with their speed, however Maremoto held on to the tie, until Pac Med FC scored the first goal of the season. Maremoto was determined not to finish the first half down and goals came from the defenders Burak and Vivian. While Andrea and Vivian proved to be a deadly duo in the offense, the first half ended tied 2-2, the second half ...

Players of the game: Andrea and Vasily kept the score close for a while with their great effort.

Maremoto 5 - 6 Naughty Muffins

Maremoto FC went into the game against the almost defeated team of Naughty Muffins with quite a bit of confidence but unfortunately did not come out on top. The game started very strong with a goal from Michael in the first 25 seconds. Michael got injured in the first few minutes of the game and was not able to play his best for the rest of the game. Vasily and Yong each scored a goal in the first half while the Naughty Muffins kept up with a tie of 3-3 at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Enrique tied the game again to 4-4. The Naughty Muffins scored a couple of goals with long shots that goal keeper Nic couldn't see. Burak scored again to keep the tie going with a score of 5-5. The Naughty Muffins came ahead in the end scoring an extra goal to clinch the win.

Thanks to everyone for a great season. I think we have definitely come together more as a team and have shown some considerable strengths in scoring and defense. Let's keep up the good work as we enter the Spring season while we try to work our way closer to the top of the standings.

Maremoto FC 3 - 3 Gunners

Maremoto had three beautiful games against Cobra Kai, Seattle's Children and Point Break, but the best one was yet to come. For the team Gunners competing with Ich Liebe for the championship, anything less than a win would have been upsetting. Yet team Maremoto had a defense anchored by Vivian, Enrique and Burak with help from Yong, Andrea, Beth, Sarah, Vasily and Sam. The team were determined to keep the ball away from the speedy Gunners forwards. The game was tied 0-0 through the entire first half and only until the final 16 minutes, when Gunners broke the tie, followed by two additional quick goals. There was not much time left, but the Maremoto was determined to come back from the 0-3 deficit and scored with goals from Michael and Enrique. Then Michael scored the game tying goal. Towards the end of the game, Enrique had a beautiful diving header and Lauren had a perfect shot but both were intercepted by the Gunner's goalie. Maremoto was only a goal away from a win, but executed a game that deserved a big bravo!

Player of the game: Maremoto definitely played well as the entire team and managed to keep the ball away from Gunners and didn't allow them to take advantage of easy shots; however, Gunners speedy offense had cunning shots that were blocked by our team captain Nic!

Maremoto FC 4 - 1 Point Break

Coming off from good games against Cobra Kai and Seattle Children, team Maremoto was ready for the tough game against Point Break and anything other than a win would have been a disappointment. Point Break was not going to go down with out a fight and it was a tough game for Maremoto with the depleted roster. Both teams played a great first half, but Maremoto was able to spread out in the offense and keep the defense more organized. Point Break was shut out with goals from Diego and Michael in the first half and despite Marie, Sarah and Lauren didn't have any subs, Point Break's lone goal came during the garbage time, while Maremoto was leading 3-0 with 5 minutes left on the clock. Michael continued his scoring streak with a hat trick, and Maremoto had scored 54 against the 57 goals this season. The next game against the Gunners will be a tough one, but if we played the way we played in the last part of the season, I have no doubt that we will finish the season with more goals then that were scored against us.
Player of the game, Marie, Sarah and Lauren had to play the entire game, but they were up to the challenge and they were able to outrun the Point Break offense.

Maremoto FC 8 - 8 Seattle Children's FC

Maremoto started off the game in a good position Thursday evening. Seattle Children's didn't have enough women so we graciously loaned them Marie for the evening. Although Marie did assist in a Seattle Children's goal we won't hold that against her.

Michael and Diego started off the game with a bang each scoring a goal in the first couple of minutes. Sarah also had a beautiful goal right over the goalie's head after she passed to herself off the wall. Seattle Children didn't let our lead get them down and scored of a couple of goals by passing to shooters in the middle of the goal box, beyond goalie Yong's control. Substitute player, Adriana was an excellent addition to our team last night scoring a goal with a power shot from the corner in the first half.

Maremoto's lead was taken away from them in the second half, but we stayed strong with another goal from Diego, Michael and Adriana. The score was 7-8 in the last minute until Michael pulled through and scored the game tying goal in the last 30 seconds. Special thanks goes out to Marie's "invisible" friend, Beatrice, who goal kept for Maremoto during the second half allowing Yong to show his power on the field. To all of you who didn't attend the game...YES...Beatrice does exist and her and her daughter Adriana undoubtedly helped Maremoto power through this high scoring tied game.

Maremoto FC 12 - 5 Cobra Kai

The earliest Sport Arena game of all time started with 5 on 5. Cobra Kai and Maremoto had an intense start. Yong helped Maremoto take an early lead with his two cunning goals, but Cobra Kai rallied back to 4-3. After Michael's response with three straight goals, Maremoto took the lead for good and separated itself apart from the other team. In the second half Maremoto's speedy offense took the stage against a worn out Cobra Kai by scoring 8 unanswered goals. Michael scored season high five, Yong scored two in the first half and had an amazing goal keeping in the second half, and Sarah, Andrea, Enrique, Diego and Burak all scored one goal each. While Vivian stopping the violent Cobra Kai attacks, Sam was setting goals for our forward in the midfield.

While Michael was the offensive MVP of the game with five goals this game and 50% of the goals the entire season, Vivian never left the defense and played the entire game as the defensive MVP.

Maremoto FC 2 - 7 Ich Liebe

Because some of our players didn't show up on time (including myself), Ich Liebe took the quick 3-0 lead, until Yong made his presence. Yong took advantage of a wall pass to endorse the people who supported him on the poll by scoring the team's first goal. Marie anchored the defense with her efforts and help from Vivian, Beth and Andrea. Meanwhile Michael scored the second goal to continue his streak. He has scored at least one goal in every game this season. Despite the difference in the final score, the game stayed within two goals difference thanks to Nic's incredible saves. Ich Liebe's late rally at the end of the second half provided some distance for Maremoto to cover.
Special thanks to great efforts by Vasily and Sam, cheering by Mick, Diego and John, and coaching by Yogi . This was the Maremoto's lowest scoring game of the season with two goals. Maremoto has averaged 4.3 goals a game and has allowed 6.1 goals a game, so far.

Player of the game: Andrea helped the defense and the midfield with her limitless effort, and she even had couple of good shots in the offense.

Maremoto FC 4 - 5 Turf Burn

Although this game may not have been the best of the season so far, it sure was a fun one! Michael drew first blood with a goal by following the ball that bounced back from the wall. Maremoto stayed focused and energetic in the first half dominating it 3-1. Beth, who claims to have been injured, played an amazing game scoring two goals, including a beautiful header to avoid further injury to her knee.

Turf Burn's energy started to outlast Maremoto and they ended up coming from behind. Captain Nic kept the team in the game with numerous saves and even set up many goal oppurtunities with his numerous passes. Michael finished off the night for Maremoto with one last goal. In the end Maremoto couldn't quite pull off the win and lost 4 to 5.

Player of the Game: Beth and Nic. Beth for being tough while being injured and still scoring 2 goals. Nic for keeping the team motivated while saving shots during the game.

Some lessons learned: Be dilegent about spreading out in the defense and marking your players in order to not leave opponents wide open. Continue to help each other with passing throughout the game.

Maremoto 5 - 7 The Crazy 88

Maremoto took on one of the best teams in the league last night and played strong all night long. The first half was dominated by Michael in offense scoring the first two goals. First, he dribbled across the field and had a beautiful shot on the wall. He also picked up the ball in the air, reversed, and passed the defender to shoot another one on the wall. Keeper Burak fought off numerous shots to hold The Crazy 88 to only 3 goals in the 1st half.

The second half didn’t start out as well with The Crazy 88 scoring 4 more goals in the beginning of the second half. Although Lauren, Marie, and Diego had opportunities, the goal seemed cursed and didn't allow any in. The Crazy 88 was leading 7-2, when Yong subbed in and was fired up! Yong scored a goal from the far right side minutes after he stepped on the field. Michael followed with two more goals, while Vivian and Sarah held the defense not allowing The Crazy 88 to score any goals during the last 10 minutes of the game.

Goal and player of the game: Yong’s long shot from far right field…wish we could have got that one on video!

Maremoto FC 4-9 Cortisone Shooters

It definitely appeared as if the Cortisone Shooters were shooting some sort of energy into their system Friday night leaving Maremoto with very few chances to actually score any goals. Their lightening fast offence was difficult for Maremoto to control and thankfully Yong was in the goal box defending the shots from every direction as best as he could. Katherine and Vivian also helped in defense trying to cover the three aggressive Cortisone men as they darted around the field.

With a female goal keeper, the Maremoto men had to be crafty when scoring goals. The first Maremoto goal in the first half came from Michael with a fast low kick from almost midfield. He scored another in the same fashion in the second half. Diego also helped out with 2 goals in the second half to end the game 4 to 9.

Thanks very much to Lauren for writing up this summary ...

Maremoto FC 8 - 1 FC Lightning

Who would have thought the best Maremoto FC game was yet to come? The team started the game with a solid defense, a productive offense and the best goal keeper of the history of the Maremoto. While Lauren, Yong and Michael were carving the FC Lightning defense, Vivian, Sarah and Beth were defending the speedy Lightning forwards. Maremoto shut-out the Lightning in the first half with goals from Yong and Michael (2).

There was a suspicion of an FC Lightning rally in the second half with their first goal, yet, even the extra player did not help them come back. Michael and Yong anchored the defense and helped Maremoto subs start attacking from everywhere. Lauren, Sam, Sarah, Vasily and Beth put final touch on the victorious Maremoto win, 8-1!

The video of highlights of the game are now being distributed in China.

Player of the game award goes to Sarah, she dribbled and help carry the mid field.

Maremoto FC 4 - 7 Mano Verde

The game was over, when Maremoto stepped on the field. First half was 4-0. Maremoto would have to stop the shut out and  scored 4 goals in the second half. Sarah scored her first goal of the season and Michael followed her with three. Better goal keeping and defense might have helped keep the score closer.

Maremoto FC 3 - 7 Random United

Team Maremoto was looking for a fresh start to the new season. We ended last season on a high note and wanted a win . However, the roster was depleted. Sarah was in Boston, Beth and Lauren were traveling and Katherine couldn't make it to the game. We had to ask for help from outsiders (Merilyn and Lindsey), and they both played a big role in our defense.

Maremoto started the game really strong, as Yong quickly scored the first goal of the season. Unfortunately, things began to go downhill. Random United closed the first half with a lucky 3-1 lead. Maremoto's defense didn't show any resistance until the score was 2-7, then Michael cut the difference to 3-7. Random United continued to pressure for another goal, but Maremoto didn't allow it.

Player of the game: Andrea was the unspoken hero of the game by holding on to the defense and passing the ball around in the midfield. Both Marie and Andrea had to play full time because of the depleted female subs.

Maremoto FC 5 - 4 DKS

Despite suffering a tough season, Maremoto FC found a way to end the season on a good note with a 5-4 victory over DKS.

Maremoto looked a bit rusty and disorganized in the first half, probably due to the holiday break, but did enough to remain in the game. The second half saw a major improvement, as Vasily, Marie, Lauren and Andrea prevented DKS from creating many quality scoring opportunities. Meanwhile Beth, Enrique and Michael created lots of scoring opportunities on the other end of the field.

With less than three minutes left in the game, Maremoto FC were losing 4-2. Thanks to an organized defense and a persistent attack, Maremoto came from behind to win 5-4! Certainly a highlight of the match was Enrique's beautiful cross which was delicately headed into the back of the net by Michael.

Congratulations to everyone for playing hard despite the challenges this season has presented.

Player of the Match: Yong was a superstar on defense and offense. He was either stealing the ball from opponents or setting up goals. Although I thought he might collapse from exhaustion, he never gave up and played just as hard on defense as he did on offense.

Note: Standings have been updated on 1/10. It appears the standings are final, unless DKS and Mano Verde play their postponed match during the next season.
